When I use references, as documented in the inline help of the page editor (or e.g. here, they don't get rendered at all. Instead I see the <ref> elements as well as the <references /> element being rendered as text.

Looks like this needs to be enabled: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Cite

I'm giving it a try, if it works I'll push a PR to add the extension to our config
